| COMMENTS:
I don't focus on near-modern Montblanc, but the above MB's turned
up in pen collections purchased this year, so now I have a few.
All are clean. I'm not expert on the nuances of dating
these (they go back to, what, 1952?), but will post some key details to
assist you. I had the pleasure, at the Ohio Pen Show in
November 2010, to have the nibs re-set and adjusted for smoothness and
for ink flow by Mike Masuyama, a recognized nib expert, whose website
is www.mikeitwork.com. Amazon has the 149 mint at $760.
I might have a couple MB clamshell boxes lying about. Inquire if
you want one at nominal cost. LEFT to RIGHT:

With 8 pen collections purchased during the last year, an array
of nice Pelikans found its way to Vacumania... All nibs are
14 karat unless otherwise noted. This bunch spans more than 60
years of Pelikan production. The 101-N Tortoise
has great color. Some have quite interesting nibs :) LEFT to RIGHT:

| COMMENTS:
All the above pens turned up along with old pens in collections purchased this year. Several big modern and near modern Pelikans from the Souveran
line start this tray. Some of the M-800's are early style with the
metal pelikan on cap top rather than simple stencil, relatively
uncommoon in blue, which was introduced (if I reecall correctly),
shortly before the style switch. The Cleo-Skribent is a neat pen,
a high end item from Germany almost unseen in USA due to lack of local
distributor; it is a very elegant pen with very smooth point. The Rotex
is new to me, a quality German pen probably 2nd tier. It is self-fill with
piston mechanism and has gold-palted nib. Aurora Primavera and OMAS
Arco likely need no introduction. LEFT to RIGHT:

Filling system seems to be a plunger set up similar to Sheaffer's. Clean trim. Razor imprint. Plastic has small ring of color fading just below clip (was there a price sticker there?). Nib is "Warranted T.L.L.R & Co. Ltd 33". I cannot say if this is original to Onoto. Superb Flex point ranges from Fine+ to Broad+ with pressure. | Hi Flex | $300 |

| COMMENTS:
All pens above are Esterbrook Dollar pens, earlier issue and well
less common than the prevalent closed-clip. The
Dollar Pen cost, shocker, $1 and ran from 1934-1942. It is found in
standard (full size), slender and short slender sizes. Later
those would carry J, LJ and SJ labels respectively, though one website
uses B, A and H for the three sizes. A variety of nibs are presented
and I do have more nibs in storage (these can be swapped by user simply
by unscrewing the nib assembly). Nibs typically are found in 1000
series, 2000 series and high line 9000 series. There are other nib
lines, too. These are in working condition, of course. High quality
pens aimed filling the "affordable niche", Esties offer the charm of a
prior era, great writers, sturdy plastic and trim and reasonable price.

| 6 | 3432 | Standard: Black Condition: Flawed | Upgraded with high-line 9000 series nib; this 9555 is quite smooth, especially for extra fine point. There is crack in the barrel threads, a significant cosmetic issue, but one that does not affect function. | 9555 | $25 |
| 7 | 3433 | Slender Short: Black Condition: Extra Fine | Clean basic Dollar Pen with remarkably smooth medium point, smoother writer than most of the high-line pens I sell. | 2668 | $70 |

| COMMENTS: Moore generally is considered a seoond tier manufacturer , though it had its share of first quality pens. Moore tended to follow the herd. This one is amongst the prettiest Moores I've handled. Candystripe plastic is known more from overseas than from the USA. This one is a hefty pen, "double jewel" with great color noting a bit of ambering by the threads. Clip and tassies have clean gold-filled metal, but the cap-bands largerly are brassed (or in this case, maybe "nickeled" as the base-metal is white and holding color well). Imprint if light but legible. Nice smooth firm wet medium point. A big "Deco" celluloid pen. I thought of hanging onto these candy stripe Moores, but I have waaay to many pens lying about already ;) | |||
